ROSWELL, Ga. — Mr. William Spencer Ripley, 71, a resident of Roswell, Ga., passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paducah, Ky. Family and friends will gather immediately following the service.
Bill was born September 11, 1941, in Paducah, Ky. He graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School where he was an acapella singer, played the saxophone and was a member of First Baptist Church. Bill began his career at Sears Roebuck & Company and worked for the company for 32 years. During his career, he moved with his family to numerous cities in the southeast. When Bill retired from Sears in 1997, he was the National Credit Manager. In his second career phase, he co-owned Bright Ideas Cabinets with his son, Spencer, and loved every minute. He said this was the job he should have been working his entire life.
Bill enjoyed playing golf, reading crime novels, Baskin Robbins ice cream, rooting for his Kentucky Wildcat basketball team, being a Kentucky Colonel and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen Morgan Ripley; his daughter, Laurel of Los Angeles, Calif.; his son, Spencer and his wife, Jennifer, of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Sharon Wilson of Casa Grande, Arizona; his mother, Virginia Ripley of Paducah, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His father John Spencer Ripley preceded him in death.
