Longshot wins the Kentucky Derby

I’ll Have Another didn’t appear to be anything too special before Saturday’s 138th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

But the 15-1 longshot, stuck in the middle of the pack, made a late charge to win the race over second-place finisher and Derby favorite Bodemeister in the final furlong. Mario Gutierrez, 25, was racing in his rookie Derby,  and I’ll Have Another is the first horse to win the derby from the No. 19 post in the lineup.

Owner Doug O’Neill, I’ll Have Another and his jockey already committed to running in the Preakness, the second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown, in two weeks.

A record crowd of 165,307 attended the Derby on Saturday.

Keselowski gets push to win Talladega

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Brad Keselowski tried a new race move on the final laps at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, and held off Kyle Busch to win at the famed race track.

Keselowski was the first driver in the last five races at Talladega to take the white flag (one to go) and hold on for the win. Typically, a driver leading on the last lap at the track is passed by the car and driver directly behind him thanks to the physics of drafting. Keselowski went high into turn three, then pulled off of Busch’s bumper to create some separation and pull away.
