Super Bowl proves to be close
Quarterback Eli Manning and the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 on Sunday night in the NFL Super Bowl championship.
The game was a rematch from 2008’s Super Bowl, with the Giants winning that one, too, and ruining the Patriots’ chance at a perfect season. The Giants, down three points to the Patriots, scored on a nine-play 88-yard drive, with Ahmad Bradshaw falling into the end zone with a minute left for the final score. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tried to get New England back in it with one more drive, but as close as he could get was a Hail Mary pass that was batted down as time expired.
Manning was named the Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career.
Kentucky basketball teams still clicking
Kentucky’s top three men’s basketball teams all recorded wins Saturday.
The Murray State men’s basketball team recorded two more wins last week, coming from behind to beat Southeast Missouri State at the CFSB Center, and traveling to UT Martin, defeating the Skyhawks. The Racers are now 23-0 this season and ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press college basketball poll, up from No. 10 last week.
The Kentucky Wildcats held on to their No. 1 national ranking with a decisive 86-52 win at South Carolina. Freshman Anthony Davis led in the win with 22 points, eight rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Louisville also recorded a home win against Rutgers on Saturday for the Cardinals’ fourth-straight Big East victory.
