Ruth Herring Madrey, age 97, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at 8:38 a.m. at New Haven Assisted Living in Kevil, Kentucky.
Ruth owned and operated Herring Grocery in Paducah and Reidland for several years. She was a member of Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church. She also attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Calloway County. She was involved in United Methodist Women where she was known as “The Bread Lady.” This was her ministry.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Madrey Colby and her husband Ralph of Paducah; one grandson Joe Ford and his wife Kim of Paducah; one granddaughter, Shawn Coomes and her husband William Robert of Eminence, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Ford and Taylor Ford of Paducah, Ky., and Coleen Coomes and Palmer Coomes of Eminence, Ky.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Madrey; her parents, Theodore and Lucy Wallace Herring; and four brothers, Raymond Herring, Lois Herring, James Herring and Theodore Herring Jr.
A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church in Paducah with Dr. Gregory Waldrop officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church, 300 Fountain Ave., Paducah, KY 42001.
There will be a private family interment at Wallace Cemetery in Symsonia, Ky., at a later date.
Morrow Funeral Home in La Center is in charge of arrangements.
