MAYFIELD — Ruby Clarice Martin Sandefur, 89, of Mayfield, formerly of Beaver Dam, Ky., passed away, Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Gilbertsville, Ky.

She was born November 14, 1923, in Shady Grove, Ky., to the late Curtis and Margaret Brown Martin. She was a fourth grade school teacher at Wayland Alexander Elementary School in Ohio County where she lived for over 50 years. She was a member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church and later a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Mayfield, Ky.

She will be remembered for her friendliness, intelligence, hard work, emotional strength and sacrifice; always putting her family and others before herself. Her kind and generous nature will be missed.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pendleton Sandefur, and son, James Curtis Sandefur.

She is survived by three children, William Sandefur and wife Louise of Batesville, Ark., Richard Sandefur and wife Leanna of Norcross, Ga., and Margaret Wilson and husband Rick of Gilbertsville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Scott Wilson and wife Kimberly, Meredith Wilson and Elizabeth (Sandefur) Debraal and husband Tim; three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Audrey Paige and Elena Casey Wilson. She is also survived by one brother, Rayburn Martin of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Jesse Tichenor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
