Richard “Dick” Dykes, 97, of Paducah died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 4:25 p.m. at Western Baptist Hospital.

He was a native of Sequatchie Valley, Tenn., member of Central Church of Christ and retired from Covington Brothers Wholesale Grocery with 37 years of service. He worked for Rhodes Burford Furniture Company for 18 years, and more recently for Sam’s Club for 18 years, where he greeted you at the entrance, and was in charge of shopping carts. He worked at Sam’s Club well into his nineties.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Bill) Barnhill of Paragould, Ark., Judith Peck of Calvert City, Ky., and Saundra D. Hamlin of Paducah, Ky., two sons, Donald (Zondra) Dykes of Grand Rivers, Ky., Richard (Karen) Dykes of Calvert City, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Jolene Parker Dykes of Paducah, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Wanda Mueller Perry of Paducah, Ky., and Yvonne Herndon of Ga.; sixteen grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.

Preceding in death were his first wife, Hazel Rose Dykes; second wife, Lois McManus Dykes; one son, Charles Dykes; his parents, Sanders and Lucy Fredrick Dykes; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2012, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Mr. Jim Faughn officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday, October 4, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
