Laura Elizabeth Paletta and Adam Thomas Hobbs announce their engagement.

Dr. Paletta is the daughter of Irene Silva Paletta of Raleigh, N.C., and the late aRtie Paletta. She is the granddaughter of Clarence and Laura Silva of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., and the late Justin and Louise Paletta. She is a 1993 graduate of Mahopac High School in Mahopac, N.Y. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from the University of Richmond in 1997 and her master’s degree in physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. She also earned her doctor of medicine degree in 2003 from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she is an assistant professor in internal medicine and an attending physician with the academic hospitalist service.

Mr. Hobbs is the son of Stephen Lee Hobbs Sr. of Paducah and Mary “Tommie” and David Read of Knoxville, Tenn. He is the grandson of Jean Jasmin of Cape Coral, Fla., and the late Thomas and Bernice Hobbs. He is a 1997 graduate of St. Mary High School in Paducah. He earned his bachelor’s degree in information science from the University of Phoenix in 2007 and his master’s degree in information security from Capella University in 2010. He is employed with General Electric in Glen Allen, Va.

Wedding vows will be exchanged at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Va.
