MAYFIELD — Mr. and Mrs. Mervel Childers of the Clear Springs community will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a tea hosted by their children from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Trace Creek Baptist Church in Mayfield. All friends and relatives are invited. The couple requests no gifts.

Mr. Childers and the former Rita Rogers were married Oct. 7, 1961, by R. Perkins Atherton at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah. Their attendants were Violet Copeland and Thomas Dismore.

Mrs. Childers retired from Dana-Plumley in Fulton. She is the daughter of the late Tommy and Gertie Rogers.

Mr. Childers retired from Briggs & Stratton in Murray. He is the son of the late Vernon and Maggie Childers.

They are the parents of Sandy Ray Childers of Greenwood, La., and Laurel Blank of Villa Hills, and the stepparents of Chris Hay and Heather Comeaux, both of Lake Charles, La. They have four grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
