WINGO — Max Joseph Ayers Jr., 61, of Wingo died Thursday at Lourdes hospital.

He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Kay Cox Ayers; his mother, Nora Brinkley Ayers Dornhecker of Massillon, Ohio; two sons, Michael Ayers of Cadiz and Max Joseph Ayers III of Wingo; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Vanness of Mayfield and Mary Kay Ayers of Coldwater; two brothers, Allen Ayers of Gary, Ind., and Bobby Dornhecker of Kent, Ohio; three sisters, Nora Grant and Margaret Ayers, both of Tennessee, and Diane Ivan of Massillon; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Max Joseph Ayers Sr.; his stepfather, Robert Dornhecker; and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Pryorsburg Baptist Church in Pryorsburg.

Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield is in charge of arrangements.
