Mary K. Patry, 83, of Paducah, KY, formerly of Evansville, IN, died on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 6 a.m. at Superior Care Home.
Mary was born on September 13, 1928, to Oswald and Clara Hormuth of Evansville. Mary attended St. Benedict School, Reitz Memorial High School, and Evansville College where she graduated in 1950. She taught at Sullivan High School for two years before marrying Robert P. Patry, her husband of fifty-one years. Mary taught Spanish at Mater Dei High School for thirty-four years. She was honored in 1991 by the Evansville Courier and Press, as the high school teacher of the year.
Mary lived in Evansville until 2006, when she moved to Fort Myers, FL, and then to Paducah in 2008 to be near family. Since living in Paducah, Mary was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church for over fifty years, where she served on various church committees including Parish Council, PTA, and the Bereavement Committee. She and Bob were recognized for their many years of faithful service to the Church by being presented the Diocesan Brute Award. She was also an active volunteer in the community, participated in girl scouting, and read the newspaper on public radio on Saturdays with Bob. She loved life and found joy in all those around her.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Linda (Karl) Hedenberg of Mullica Hill, NJ, Paula (Chris) Brown of Bemidji, MN, Julie (Paul) McFarland of Paducah; brother, Dr. James O. Hormuth; brother and sister-in-law, G. Richard and Rita Eykamp; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Hormuth; her parents, and her husband, Robert P. Patry.
Visitation will be held at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River, Evansville. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and will be officiated by Rev. Jeff Read and Rev. John Breidenbach with entombment to follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers and skilled personnel at Superior Care Home for the love, dignity, and compassion that made it “home” in her final days.
