SIMPSON, Ill. — Joyce Humes, age 77, of Simpson, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Shawnee Rose Nursing Home in Harrisburg.
She was born October 4, 1935, in Springfield, Mo., to John and Hazel (Lambeth) Kiener. She was a member of the Edinboro, Pa., Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department. Joyce loved people and enjoyed meeting new people. She also loved animals, hummingbirds, crafts, needle point, and having garage sales. Joyce was a District Manager for Avon. She was also a leader for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
She is survived by five children, Carla (Mike) Gray of Albion, Pa., Steve Stephens of Gainesville, Fla., Lisa (Ken) Humes of Erie, Pa., Scott Humes of Charlotte, N.C., and Misty (Phil) Valestin of Simpson, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Kaye Ball of Grove, Okla., Pat (Gary) Montgomery of Stafford, Mo., Pam (Jim) Van of Moline, Ill., and Donna (Jerry) Powell of Springfield, Mo.; and her beloved cat, Jinxy.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Steve “Carl” Stephens; second husband, Rich Humes; and brother-in-law, Jim Ball.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
