Services for Johnie Mae Murrell, 89, of Louisville, formerly of Paducah, will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Lincoln Heights Baptist Church in Paducah with Elder Raymond Powell of Chicago, Ill., officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Murrell died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at her residence in Louisville, KY.
She was a 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School in Paducah. Mrs. Murrell joined the Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F) on October 10, 1943, uniting with the church at Temple #78 located in Chicago, Ill., under the leadership of Bishop I.C. Collins.
She was active in her church locally and nationally. She was a missionary and a charter member of the national choir, where she served as the national secretary for many years. She was a member of the O.E.S, the Union Usher Board & Union Choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel Murrell; her parents, John Bailey and Lydia Mae Clarke, and one brother.
She is survived by her four children, Akilawoo “Dale” Murrell, Eli Nawatha Murrell, and Nausha Jones, all of Louisville, and Henny Burger of Germany; one brother, Felix A. Bailey of Savannah, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Special visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church. Mundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
