SAN DIEGO — John Edward Elder, 49, of San Diego died Thursday, July 5, at his home.

He was born to the late William Stephen and Roseanne Elder, December 15, 1962, in Beacon, N.Y.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William Stephen and Roseanne (Rowland) Elder; his grandparents, John and Ruth (Ballard) Elder and Anna Lee (Courtney) Elder; his uncle, Danny Elder; his aunts, Linda Mae Elder and Sandra Rowland.

John is survived by his wife, Helen Elder of San Diego, Calif.; three siblings, Bill Elder (Rose) of Murray, Thomas Elder (Paula) of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and Elizabeth (Chris) Carrico of Metamora, Ill.; his aunts, Mary Ann (David) McDaniel of Mayfield, Nancy (Steve) Glover of Calvert City, Dianne Elder of Fancy Farm and Mary Elder of Sharp; his uncles, Joey (Sue) Elder of Fancy Farm and Jimmy (Cynthia) Elder of Fancy Farm; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John graduated from Mayfield High School in 1981 and received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tenn., in 1985.

He was an electrical engineer for Qualcomm. He was passionate about his family, music and work. He was very involved in the Mayfield High School band during high school and has been involved in bands that perform at church and other gatherings throughout his life. John was an active member of Saint Brigid Catholic Church.

A viewing will be held Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chapel of the Roses, Glen Abbey Mortuary and Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to noon at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 4735 Cass Street, San Diego, CA 92109. A memorial service for John will also be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Fancy Farm, Ky., at a future date.
