FULTON — John Avent, 84, of Fulton, formerly of South Fulton, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Parkway Regional Hospital.

He was a retired banbury operator for General Tire Company in Mayfield. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (Jeffries) Avent of South Fulton; six sons, Willie Avent of Mayfield, Percy Lee Avent and John Henry Avent, both of South Fulton, Robert L. Avent of Casa Grande, Ariz., Bobby Avent of Phoenix, and Joey Avent of Lexington, S.C.; three daughters, Dorothy Randolph of Milwaukee, Thelma Louise Wakefield of South Fulton, and Dwan Avent of Gallatin, Tenn.; two sisters, Julia Osler of Fulton and Clara Kemp of Broken Arrow. Okla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Ann Avent; one son; five brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild. His parents were William and Annie B. (Phimisee) Avent

Services will be at noon Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Hornbeck Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlea Cemetery.

Friends may call  after 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, until the service hour at the funeral home.
