John A. Williams
John A. Williams, 88, of Yorkville, Ill., formerly of Paducah, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Countryside Nursing Home in Aurora.
John was born on January 6, 1924, to the late Herbert Walker Williams and Rosamond Latta Williams. He graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School, where he met his eventual wife, Mary Jane Stafford, whom he married on March 31, 1947. John retired from the Illinois Central Railroad after 47 years employment, moving from Memphis to Chicago with the railroad before returning to Paducah upon his retirement in 1985. He was a devoted “train man,” becoming familiar with the local train schedule even when his suffering from Alzheimer’s disease made other daily tasks difficult. In addition, he loved to read the Bible and keep track of his stock portfolio.
John is survived by his son, Len J. Williams of Carbondale, Ill.; a daughter, Amy Vandermyde and husband Todd of Yorkville, Ill.; two grandsons, Jacob and John Vandermyde; and many nieces and nephews from the Paducah area.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, and siblings, Dorothy Chapman, Herbert Williams and Charles Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Burial will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
