BENTON — Jimmie L. Darnell, 73, of Benton died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Born May 15, 1939, he was a retired Ironworker, a veteran of the U.S. Army and member of Hardin Baptist Church.
He was a loving husband and father, as well as an avid hunter and golfer.
He was the son of the late Garland Darnell and the late Martha (Canup) Darnell.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Darnell of Benton; three daughters, Lavon Thompson and Jerry Boles, both of Wingo, Kelm Burchard and husband, Joey of Lone Oak and Carol Craig of Humphery, Alaska; two sons, Jacob Barker of Benton and Scott Barker of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Glendel Darnell of Evansville, Ind., Randy Darnell of Benton and Roy Darnell of Benton; and grandchildren, Zachary Thompson, Korrina Davidson, Jade Thompson, Hayden Barker and Ella Barker.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Earl Darnell and Tommy Darnell; and sisters, Katheline O’Daniel and Genene Gipson.
Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 492, Benton, KY.
Funeral service will be held at Collier Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, with the Rev. Charlie Canup and the Rev. Ricky Cunningham officiating.
Interment will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at Collier Funeral Home.
