Janis Ruth Andrus Fuqua, 69, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Mayfield, died in Mercy Hospital Tuesday, May 7, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born June 8, 1943, in Mayfield, to the late Perry and Ena Andrus. She graduated from Farmington High School, Class of 1961. Janis married Ben David Fuqua on June 9, 1962, and they were blessed with nearly 51 years of marriage.
Janis was a very loving person who cared greatly for others. She retired from the Springfield School System as a Paraprofessional, working her entire career with the special kids at Delaware Elementary. Janis was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church and the Homebuilders Class. God got an angel, but she will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
Janis is survived by her husband, Ben Fuqua; her children, Allyson and Scott Nicholson of North Pole, Ark., and Alicia and Aaron Farris of Tulsa, Okla. She was “Nanny” to her special grandchildren, David, Courtney, Tyler Nicholson, Rowdy, and Dylan Farris. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Jan) Andrus of New Orleans, La.; her sister-in-law, Patricia Andrus of Sanford, N.C.; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Janis was proceeded in death by two brothers, Donnie and David.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Green Lawn East Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at Schweitzer United Methodist Church Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Jim Mason, Clayton Smith, and Robert Cassidy presiding. A second visitation will be held at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield Sunday, May 12, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Farmington Cemetery in Farmington. The Rev. Ben Stratton and Richard Adams will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Ben and Janis Fuqua Agricultural Scholarship Fund at MSU Foundation; The American Diabetes Association; the American Heart Association; or Schweitzer UMC.
