LA CENTER — Helen L. Cooper, 93, of La Center, Ky., formerly of Cairo, died Tuesday morning, October 16, 2012, at Life Care Center in La Center.
She was born September 11, 1919, in Miller City, Ill., the daughter of the late John and Zada Smithey Ronnebeck. She was married to Bernard Cooper, who preceded her in death in 1994. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Lake Milligan Baptist Church in Miller City, the John Birch Society, and the Newton O. Belt Art Club. She was a hairdresser for fifty years, and was an accomplished artist. She also served as manager of the Happy Days Senior Citizen Center in Cairo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Morgan Nicole Pickett.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by one daughter, Beverly (Boyce) Pickett, of La Center; three sisters, Virginia Pecord of Olive Branch, Ill., Doris Dickerson and Ida Thomas of Cairo; and one brother, John Ronnebeck also of Cairo; two grandsons, Bradley (Jennifer) Pickett of Kevil, Ky., and Brian (Susan) Pickett of La Center; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Jordan, Briley, and Caleb Pickett; a close friend, Frieda Wagoner, of La Center; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation is at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time for services Thursday, October 18.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo with the Rev. Verlee Eaker and Robert D. McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery at Olive Branch.
At the request of the family, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Lake Milligan Baptist Church in Miller City, in memory of Mrs. Cooper.
