METROPOLIS, Ill. — Ms. Helen Carter, 94, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 1:39 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the First Methodist Church of Metropolis, with Rev. Jon Cockrel and Rev. Jeff Bealmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Carter was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis where she was an organist, Sunday School teacher, and led the youth group. Helen and her late husband, Jess Carter, owned and ran Carter Furniture and Hardware.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Brenda Goins and husband Danny, and Connie Beyer, both of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren, Denise Hutchison and husband Landon of Grand Rivers, Ky., Michelle Wooten and husband Mike of Paducah, Ky., Jason Goins of Paducah, Ky., Leslie Sherman and husband Mike of Lexana, Kan., and Jennifer Walker of Overland Park, Kan.; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Hutchison, Madeline Wooten, Mason Wooten, Cameron Sherman, Meghan Sherman, and Carter Walker; and two sisters, Charlotte Durham and Carole Ellis, both of Urbana, Ill.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jess Carter; her parents, Oral and Violet (Duncan) Freeman; her son, Don Carter; one grandson, Darren Beyer; one sister, Beverly Overman; and her son-in-law, Harold Beyer.
Friends may call from 12 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Metropolis.
