BENTON — Gerald Whetsell, 76, of Benton, went to be home with Jesus Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Benton, KY. He retired after over 40 enjoyable years working for TVA and the Corps of Engineers. Mr. Whetsell was a member of First Baptist Church of Benton. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Whetsell was a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathlyn (Jones) Whetsell; one daughter, Jana Hever and husband John of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Jon Whetsell of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Geraldine Linkous and husband Paul of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Amanda Hack and husband Jarred of Paducah, and Katelyn, Kara, Emily, and Caleb Hever, all of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Ansley and Kylee Hack of Paducah; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Barbara Jones of Benton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the son of the late Donald Alvin Whetsell Sr. and the late Mamie Lee (Arp) Whetsell. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Donald Alvin Whetsell Jr. and Clarence Whetsell; his sister, Yvonne Whetsell; and his daughter, Mitzie Parks and husband David of Paducah.
He was a good man and all who knew him knew what he stood for Jesus Christ his savior.
Arrangements are being handled by Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home, 1117 Poplar Street, Benton, KY 42025. Funeral service will be at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, and visitation will be from 5 p.m.– 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013. Bob Warren and Brother Don Wilson officiating. Interment will be at Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton, Kentucky.
