Fern Powell Hamblin, 86, of Paducah passed away at 4:30 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton.

Mrs. Hamblin was former owner of Fern’s Frosting in Reidland, where she worked for over 30 years making wedding and all-occasion cakes. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included collecting antique furniture and glassware.

She is survived by her children, Carl Hamblin Jr. and wife Kaye of Calvert City, Roger Hamblin and wife Paula of Independence, Missouri, and Gary Hamblin and wife Lisa of Alexandria, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hamblin Sr.; one brother, Omar Powell; two sisters, Lucille Powell and Norma Thompson; and one daughter-in-law, Patsy Scott Hamblin. Her parents were Lyman and Methyl Powell.

Graveside service for Mrs. Hamblin will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Hutsonville Township Cemetery in Illinois. In lieu of flowers the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the WKTCS School of Culinary Arts, P.O. Box 7380, Paducah, KY 42002-7380. Checks must be made out to PJC, Inc., in remembrance of Fern Hamblin.
