BARLOW — Elizabeth Frey Grief passed away Friday, September 7, 2012, at Life Care Center in La Center at the age of 99. Her date of birth was October 13, 1912.
She was born on the Frey family farm near Barlow and lived in Barlow and Bandana her whole life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil E. Frey Sr. and Mary Kathleen (Mamie); her husband, Alvin; brothers, Virgil E. Frey, Jr. (Buddy) and Bobby Frey; sisters, Irene Wiggins, Ruth Davis, Louise Farris, and Dorothy Kockritz Newberry.
Mrs. Grief graduated from the University of Kentucky and taught school at Bandana for several years. She stayed in touch with many of her students, regularly attending reunions. She left teaching to work for Union Carbide as an executive secretary for 25 years. After retirement, she traveled extensively.
She was a member of the Barlow Baptist Church.
“Aunt Beth” is survived by nieces, Pat Murphy of Chicago, Janet Little of San Antonio, Diane Hughes of Barlow, Debbie Davis of San Antonio, Felicia Hackney of Warner Robins, Georgia, Cindy Smith of Pensacola, Melissa Napier of Little Rock; nephew, Brian Frey of Atlanta; 24 great-nieces and nephews; 16 great-great nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Jeanine Elms Frey of Warner Robins, Georgia.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with Dewayne Chadwick officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Barlow Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning until funeral time. Morrow Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
