MAYFIELD — Dr. Richard L. Colley, 91, of Mayfield died Sunday morning, February 24, 2013, at Mills Health & Rehab in Mayfield. He was a member of Seven Oaks Church of Christ.

During World War II, he was a B-17 airplane mechanic. After completing his pre-med studies at Murray State College, he entered the University of Louisville Medical School and graduated in 1950. After an internship at Brooks General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, he moved his family to Mayfield and started a medical practice at the Mayfield Hospital. Dr. Colley practiced family medicine for 35 years before retiring in 1986.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and RV camping, and was a charter member of the Jackson Purchase Gun Club.

He is survived by his daughters, Jo (William) Wells of Mayfield, Beverly (Robert) Carrico of Madisonville, Ky., Paula (Al) Manning of Mayfield; his sisters, Anna Arnett and June (Thomas) Travis, both of Mayfield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Melvin Colley; his sister, Marilyn Taylor; and his parents, Alonzo and Eva Stone Colley.

Funeral services for Dr. Richard L. Colley will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013, in the Byrn Funeral Home Chapel, with Bobby L. Crittendon officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call on the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the funeral home. Byrn Funeral Home of Mayfield, Ky., is in charge of the arrangements.
