METROPOLIS, Ill. — Dennis Johnson, 74, of Metropolis, passed away at 8:07 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Metropolis, Ill. with Bro. Louis W. Brinker and Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Dennis worked for Air Products and Chemicals in Calvert City, Ky. for 38 years. He was very active in his community and church serving as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Metropolis, Ill. Dennis was an Army veteran and loved golfing and riding bikes.
Dennis is survived by his mother, Doris Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Metropolis, Ill.; one daughter, Sheryl Rolfe and husband, Jack of Metropolis, Ill.; two sons, Paul Johnson and wife, Kathy of Grantsburg, Ill. and Joe Johnson and wife, Cathy of Cunningham, Ky.; two sisters, Phyllis Vick and husband, Claud and Beverly Allen, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Johnson, and his wife, Shirley Johnson.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, 306 Massac Creek Road in Metropolis, Ill., Friday, August 10, 2012, from 5-8 p.m.
