GRAND RIVERS — Charles Edward Driskill, 78, of Grand Rivers, Ky., met his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 1:40 p.m., after an eight-month courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.
Charles served two years in the Army and Korea from 1957 to 1959. He served two years in the National Guard Active Duty and two years inactive duty. He retired in 1989 from the I.C.G. Railroad after 361⁄2 years of employment. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Paradise United Methodist Church for 64 years and also attended Calvary Baptist Church with his family.
Charles was surrounded by his family and friends during the last eight months. Charles never met a stranger and helped anyone who needed it. He treated everyone like family and never turned anyone away who needed him. He enjoyed being on the family farm taking care of his cows and donkeys. He loved piddling in his garage and helping his neighbors.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Lynn (Smith) Driskill; his daughter, Carol (Ken) Manker; two sons, David (Margaret) Driskill and Jimmy (Cathy) Driskill, all of the family farm in Grand Rivers. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ashley (Paul) Lanier, Sarrah (TJ) Davison, Brittany Driskill, Lindsey Manker, Amanda Akers, Kimberly (Shane) Murray, Jennifer Driskill, Jake Manker, and Lori Driskill; six great-grandchildren, Maggi Davison, Landon Wheeler, Anthony Davison, Chloe Lanier, Noah Born and Peyton Davison. He is also survived by two brothers, Dorce and Casper Driskill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurschell and Roberta Driskill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Bro. Nick Forsythe and Bro. Harry Todd officiating. Burial will be at Paradise United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah.
Pallbearers will be Harold Driskill, Gerald Driskill, Paul Lanier, T.J. Davison, Shane Murray, Jonathon Topper and Terry Manker.
