BENTON — Burl Flatt, 80, of Benton passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013, at Western Baptist Hospital surrounded by his family.
Burl was a member and deacon of the First Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved and served many. He played a vital role in the community as he served on the zoning board of the city of Benton, was an active member for many years in the Benton Kiwanis Club and was a charter member of the Benton Golf & Country Club. Burl was a career car dealer and salesman for 60 years. He was a proud veteran serving as a corporal and paratrooper in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyl Brien and husband, Charlie; Fran Gold and husband Larry; one son, Stephen Flatt and wife, Leslie; five wonderful grandsons, Bo Brien, Zach Brien, Sam Gold, Bryson Burl Flatt and Cade Flatt; sister, Virginia Gunter; brother, Gerald Flatt; his beloved church family and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Judy Boyd Flatt; parents, Bail and Vivian Flatt; brother, Ray Flatt; and sisters, Geneva Capuzi and Betty Tatum.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at First Missionary Baptist Church. Bro. Alan Miller, Bro. Steve Smith and Charlie Brien will officiate. Burial will follow at the Benton Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013, and after 10 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the church.
