The ‘90s were known for boy bands. At its peak, the “boy bandmania” boasted at least five different wildly successful acts. While some of those bands have been featured in reunion shows as of late, only one has never stopped working.

Since releasing its first single in 1992, Boyz II Men has entertained millions worldwide. Now, 20 years after beginning the journey, the band will hit the Carson Center stage this weekend. The resume alone puts it in the elite musician conversation: Seven Grammy Awards, over 60 million albums sold worldwide, and singles that place first, third and fourth for longest-running No. 1 singles in Billboard music chart history.

“It’s been a long time, but we love what we do and we feed off of how much our crowd loves it,” band members Shawn Stockman said. “You have to love what you do, and we definitely do.”

In January, the band earned itself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Still, Boyz II Men continues to release new music. The band released “Twenty” in 2011 to celebrate its 20 years in the music business. It includes 13 new songs and eight rerecorded classics, and Stockman says the inside pamphlet includes a history of the band. 

“The music is new, but it also is somewhat of a history lesson for our newer fans or people who don’t know all about us,” Stockman said. “We wanted to give people something new to sink their teeth into.”

Stockman said the band members till enjoy each other and being on the road. They prefer staying in or hanging with close friends to the party scene. He said what keeps him going is his love for what he does, and not to expect Boyz II Men to disappear from the music scene anytime soon.

“We got to where we are by being who we are,” Stockman said. “I am going to do this until I can’t anymore.”
