SOUTH FULTON, Tenn. — Mrs. Billie DeMyer Allen, age 89, of South Fulton, Tenn., died at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Haws Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Fulton, Ky.
Billie DeMyer Allen was a 1942 graduate of Central High School in Clinton, Ky., and Mayfield School of Beauty Culture in Mayfield, Ky. She was the former owner of Billie’s Beauty Shop in Clinton, Ky.; was employed at Newton’s Beauty Shop in Hickman, Ky., and retired as bookkeeper of the Hickman-Fulton County Rural Electric System.
She resided and raised her family on the Maple Crest Farm, Cayce, Ky., until moving to South Fulton, Tenn., in 1977. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Fulton, Ky., and served on the board. She was a self-taught seamstress who had a flair for style. She was a gourmet cook who loved to entertain family and friends at her home and church festivities. Vegetable and flower gardening and needlepoint were hobbies, but her joy was spending time with friends and supporting many community events. She was a member of the Senior Circle and the Red Hat Society. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves many special friends who will miss her laughter, jest for life and sweet disposition.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Scott DeMyer and wife Janice of Louisville, Ky.; and two daughters Shelia DeMyer Shaw Henry of Murray, Ky., and Nancy DeMyer Geistweidt and husband Ted, of San Antonio, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Stephen Scott Shaw and wife Shon of Murray, Ky., Emma Shaw Lenz and husband Steven of Hendersonville, Tenn., Scott DeMyer and wife Lindsay of Atlanta, Ga., Angela DeMyer Moses and husband Joe of Southgate, Ky., Lora V. Geistweidt Lowe and husband Josh of Austin, Texas, Sara V. Geistweidt Vestal and husband Ryon of Midland, Texas, Susan Geistweidt of Austin, Texas, William Bell and wife Dana of Frankfort, Ky., Heather B. Leis and husband Craig of Louisville, Ky., Don Henry, Jr. and wife Patty of Dallas, Texas, Debi Danielson and husband Robert of Murray, Ky., and Doug Henry and wife Dana of Murray,Ky.; twenty three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Louise Morganti Wilson of Rowlette, Texas; a niece, Joan L. Harper and husband Larry of Columbus, Ky.; two nephews, Larry B. Lewis of Fulton, Ky., and Ronnie Morganti of Rowlette, Texas; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trula E. McGee and William Lonnie Lampkin; her husbands, Edward Scott DeMyer and H.P. Allen; her sister, Elsie Lewis; two sons-in-law, Stephen R. Vaughn and Donald Edward Henry, Sr.; and a nephew, Jim Ray Morganti.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, and after 8 a.m. Monday until the funeral hour.
