Red Cross was targeted for these donations in the wake of the flooding emergency of recent weeks in the area that caused it to exhaust much of the money it uses to help victims of disasters. “This will help us tremendously,” Toren said. “We have to remember, with this flooding, there is still a long road ahead of us and all of the homeowners so our help is still going to be needed for quite a while.” In addition, Underwood revealed the final numbers from the recent Stuff the Truck drive Paducah Power hosted, in cooperation with WPSDLocal6. A total of 1,700 clean-up kits were formed from the donations collected, while a total of 25,000 bulk distribution items also were received. Those also went to the Red Cross who distributed the items to flood victims. “The Paducah community has just been phenomenal,” Toren added. “This is beyond anything we could’ve expected.” In addition, Atmos Energy made a $2,500 donation of its own last week, bringing the total to $10,000 from the four agencies.

Calloway County High School hosted the Kentucky State Japanese Foreign Language Festival on May 14. Students from Calloway who hosted the festival are front left to right: Rebekah Elkins, Jennifer LaRose, Manami Kawaguchi and Destiny Wendling.
