| 4 | ![Graves County High School's team of Hunter Goree (left) and Jeremy Shield won a statewide Project Lead the Way contest for their safety harness tree stand design concept. Twelve teams of two or three students participated in the final phases of the contest. GCHS also sent a team of Daniel Moreland and Ryan Gann, as well as a team of Alex Beck and Matthew Moreno, to the final competition at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Each of the 12 final groups "pitched" its product design and business strategy to a panel of judges through a five-minute presentation. Each team also was required to defend its project during a question and answer session. Judges included business professionals, entrepreneurs, professors, and educators. Pitch criteria included the strength, creativity and uniqueness of the team's idea and/or technology; appropriate description and knowledge of the target market; a revenue model, demonstrating how the venture would generate profits; and the overall quality of the presentation. ![Victoria Potter (second from right) was named a Kentucky delegation alternate to the National Forensic League's nationwide speech tournament in Birmingham, Ala., in June. Eight students from the Paducah Tilghman Speech Team, all members of National Forensic League, competed for national slots at the qualifying tournament March 22-23 at Centre College in Danville. Potter earned a Kentucky "Top Five Finalist" in United States Extemporaneous speaking, and lasted three rounds in Original Oratory. The Public Forum Debate team of Alexandra Goreing and Cade Perfili made it through three rounds while Lily Burba, Jacob Holtgrewe, Katie Paxton, Lucas Reed and Savana Whelan each completed two rounds in the elimination style tournament. Each student earned points toward advanced degrees in the National Forensic League.
