Newspaper In Education (N.I.E.) is a nation-wide program designed to partner local newspapers with local businesses, groups, and individuals to promote literacy through delivery of free newspapers to area classrooms. At the present, The Paducah Sun is delivering over 6,700 copies of the regular edition of its newspaper each week to students in over 50 schools in western Kentucky and southern Illinois through PROJECT:LITERACY/N.I.E.
N.I.E newspapers are requested, used, and appreciated by teachers, students, and school officials. The papers are used by all levels of students from early elementary to high school, plus they are used by adult learners in area literacy programs. School officials love receiving these newspapers as their most current and up-to-date curriculum material, and teachers use them to teach everything from history and reading, to economics, life skills, and more!
For over 15 years the N.I.E. program has proven to be a WIN/WIN situation for our sponsors. First, area students "win" by reaping benefits from your donation. Secondly, our sponsors "win" by having a close association with such a worthwhile project. Donors to PROJECT:LITERACY/N.I.E. are acknowledged in The Paducah Sun on a regular basis, depending upon their level of giving. Plus, donors are acknowledged at N.I.E teachers meetings, in N.I.E announcements to the schools, and on the N.I.E site of The Paducah Sun web page: www.paducahsun.com.
Suggested levels of support: Platinum ($2,500); Gold ($1000); Silver ($500); and Bronze ($250). These donations can be made as a one-time yearly donation, or an agreement can be made to have your donation billed monthly, quarterly, or however is best for you. We would appreciate you becoming a donor at one of those levels, but donations of any amount are appreciated and are MUCH needed to maintain this project. Money donated to PROJECT: LITERACY is used solely to pay for the cost of the newspapers used in the N.I.E program. The Paducah Sun matches funds for the cost of the newspapers, plus delivers them to the schools and literacy programs.
Call today to find out more details. We need your support to continue delivering newspapers to our participating schools, and to be able to grant newspapers to classrooms on our waiting list. YOU can become involved in PROJECT: LITERACY!
