This letter regards The Paducah Sun's Aug. 17 front page article, "Power plant's erratic operation socking customers in Paducah."
"'We're at the mercy of Prairie State,' said Paducah Power General Manager Dave Clark, who also is a Prairie State board member. Imagine that.
"According to Clark, the decision to switch was made for several reasons, including TVA's aging equipment ..."
The board members and elected officials who approved this fiasco are the type of people who would take an old dog to the vet and have him put to sleep because he is going to die anyway one day.
It is way past time for Paducah Power to have a new general manager and a new board. A fresh start is and must be required by the citizens of Paducah even though some current members of the board or city government may not have had anything to do with this fiasco. The public trust is gone, never to be regained with the current board.
We need to clean house of appointed board members of the various boards in this city and start over with fresh faces. Of course in order to do that we need to have elected officials who have a sense of fiscal responsibility and I only know of one who falls into that category and that would be Allan Rhodes Jr.
It's shameful that he stands alone in that arena.
Will we continue to stand idly by and let elected officials and appointees run amok with no oversight and not hold them accountable?
I think we will because no one will get involved or wants to take a stand and rock the boat. Most think what difference does my opinion make and one person cannot make a difference. I say to those: Remember Madeline Murray O'Hare?
