Watkins' first term record one of hard work, success

I am writing to respond to the criticism of Rep. Gerald Watkins by Mr. Tim Thomas.

Everyone knows that those contracts are awarded based on competitive bidding. If you read the news release you noticed it said Rep. Watkins announces. It is an effort to help make state government more transparent by letting taxpayers know where the contracts are going and for what. Most all lawmakers provide this courtesy.

As for Rep. Watkins' record, it is one of hard work and success. He has passed four bills that have become law in his first term. He has introduced legislation to try to accomplish almost everything he campaigned on. He did secure approximately $85 million for road and bridge construction projects for Paducah and McCracken County for the next two years, including $3.7 million for Kentucky Avenue, the worst street in Paducah. He initiated the effort that led to a $1 million grant to secure one new elevator and to renovate the other two elevators at the Jackson House while on the City Commission. The project was completed last week. It is a safety factor for nearly 300 disabled and elderly residents living there.

For a more comprehensive look at Rep. Watkins' record I encourage you to visit his website, GeraldWatkinsforStateRep.com.
