I can appreciate that a lot has been happening lately but you really missed the boat by not covering the appearance of a national figure at McCracken County High School on the Friday evening before Fancy Farm.
Allen West reviewed much of what you regularly cover on the editorial page with a depth of insight and knowledge that held the undivided attention of the hundreds of attendees including a significant number of local and regional notables. He gave a positive, uplifting and wide-ranging presentation of both national and global topics including the epidemic of fatherless households in America. He responded to questions from the audience including a good discussion with City Commissioner Richard Abraham (who also sang the national anthem at the start).
I noticed that the local law enforcement officers assisting us with security were particularly responsive and I was impressed by the interaction. We appreciate the support of the sheriff's department. Everybody had the chance to meet Allen West, and have their photograph taken with him. His humility was returned with enthusiasm by the audience.
Specific provisions were made for the media. It is sad but not surprising that for the most part local media didn't consider it worthy of their time. On the other hand, the national organization Gil Fulbright; Honest Politician showed up on their way to Fancy Farm although I don't think it was what they expected.
