I began composing this after attending the Memorial Day Mass in Mt. Carmel Cemetery honoring our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the tenuous freedom of religion we have enjoyed; "tenuous" because that freedom is placed in jeopardy almost daily by the blatantly unconstitutional "executive actions" of the Obama administration.
A prime example: the mandate that businesses, public or private, be required to provide employees with health insurance that includes abortifacients, birth control medications/devices and abortion procedures in blatant contravention of the business owners' religious beliefs.
Example: the Little Sisters of the Poor being forced to sue the administration and its Department of Justice (IRS) in order to do their charitable work without subordinating their faith.
There are other tramplings of religious rights by the far left. However, during the next three election cycles, let us not allow this one issue to be overshadowed by such mantras as "It's the economy, stupid," and immigration and foreign policy, and separation of powers, and race-baiting and class warfare, which these people use to mask their intent to impose dictatorial control.
To demonstrate the thinly-veiled divide-and-conquer bias of the administration regarding the primary religious faiths in America, Christianity and Judaism, let's not ignore that President Obama regularly failed to attend the annual national Christian Prayer Breakfasts held in Washington, but never failed to elaborately celebrate Ramadan in the White House annually during his presidency. Apparently his goal is to prove his statement that "America is not a Christian nation."
All these issues are important and need to be kept equally on the front burner during the vital elections of 2014, 2015 and 2016 as we do the business of choosing leaders to help work our way out of the mess the socialist Democrats in Frankfort and Washington have duped us into.
