America the beautiful is what I see when I get up in the early morning and look out over this great creation that was handed down to us, and when I look out on the flag pole and see Old Glory waving so freely in the morning breeze and feel the royal power of our Creator and the reigns of peace prevail.
But in order to understand more about America, we have to get to the depth of the matter and start with the most beautiful symbol of the world, the American flag.
The flag is a symbol or a sign that stands for an idea, a cause or purpose. A national flag stands for the country's land, its people, its government and its ideas.
Its seven red and six white stripes represent the 13 original colonies. Its white stars on a blue field represent the union of the states. Red stands for hardiness and courage. White is the symbol of purity and innocence. Blue is the color of vigilance, perseverance and justice.
Writing about it brought back some of the most beautiful memories of crossing the great Atlantic Ocean on my way home on board the great steam ship W.P. Richardson after World War II ended. I can still see after 68 years the beautiful picture of Old Glory flying on the stern of that ship watching over me all of the way back to America. God bless America.
