Bible once the foundation of learning in schools

By HAROLD GRACE Calvert City

EDITOR:

I really believe we are living in some of the saddest times right now that we have had in America since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It seems like we just don't have the moral fiber affecting standards of conduct as a moral influence, and I think that is what is so sad today.

I remember so well in my school days we would always start our day before class reading a verse from the Bible and that was a beginning of knowledge, and the most important part of getting a complete education, and that made America the greatest country of the world.

Our little children were the most precious gift we would ever have here on Earth and they knew right from wrong. But that changed after we let the big bullies come into our schools and pull the foundation out from under our little people. And we all can see where we are today.

I just never could understand why we as Christians ever let that happen. I just had to find out so I prayed and prayed and I received the answer in Proverbs 1:7 and it came to me loud and clear: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

I thought that was so true.
