I have a college degree. I earned mine when you had to state what degree you hoped to earn and your adviser told you what courses to take. As much as possible you had to take courses to obtain your degree. My aim was to earn a degree in the sciences. That meant no playing around taking courses of no value in the real world.
I earned a bachelor of science in biology with minors in military science and chemistry and near-minors in physics and English. During my working years I made a living by using skills I learned in those no-nonsense areas.
I feel our education system should go back to the basics and eliminate fluff nonsense. Everyone doesn't have what it takes to make it through real schools of knowledge where much effort is required to earn a degree.
