Dismissing Phil Robertson as 'ignorant' overlooks facts

By RICK BRENEMAN Paducah

EDITOR:

I find myself having to take exception with Mr. Gossum's letter of Dec. 22 regarding Phil Robertson.

Phil Robertson is far from being ignorant. He has a master's degree in education, was his team's first string over Terry Bradshaw, and an entrepreneur who managed to build a multimillion dollar business.

When Phil, self-proclaimed "white trash," said he saw no racism or mistreatment of minorities, I take him at his word. He grew up and worked in the fields with black folks. By the way Mr. Gossum, Phil was born and grew up in Louisiana, not Mississippi.

Phil is by no means an "ignorant" man. I can't help but wonder if he did what he did on purpose to get out of the contract with A&E, a corporation openly hostile to Christianity. You can't always judge a book by its cover.
