Garvelene Smith Wolfe

MAYFIELD - Garvelene Smith Wolfe passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Green Acres Healthcare following a long battle with dementia. She was 82 years old.

Ms. Wolfe was born in Sedalia, Ky., and graduated from Sedalia High School. She loved attending class reunions over the years. She married Billy Wolfe on June 27, 1953, and together raised three children. For many years she proudly sold Merle Norman Cosmetics. She was also employed at Liberty Bank and later retired from Martin Marietta in Paducah following 25 years of service. She was a member of Mayfield First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Steve (Patti) Wolfe of Longmont, Colo., and Richie (Melody) Wolfe of Lucas, Texas; one daughter, Lori (Bob) Smeby of McKinney, Texas; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Billy (Red) Wolfe; parents, John E. and Lola Overby Smith; brothers, Bert Smith, Alfred Smith, Flavous Smith, Henry Smith, Lee Smith, Tom Smith; and sisters, Virgie Cope and Pauline Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield. The Rev. Joe Hansen will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Wolfe, Richie Wolfe, Brian Wolfe, Bob Smeby, Randle Cope and Pete Halvorson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church, 214 S. 8th St., Mayfield, KY 42066; or Alzheimer's Association, Greater KY/Southern IN Chapter, Kaden Tower Suite 401, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville, KY 40205.
