Donna Russell

Staff report

Donna Rae Miller Russell, 75, of Paducah, Kentucky, died peacefully on June 3, 2014, at home after a brief illness. She was born on October 5, 1938, in Marion, Illinois, to Charlotte Cleaver Miller and Kenneth M. Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, James K. Miller.

She is survived by her former husband, John G. Russell Jr.; her four children, John G. Russell III (Kristin), Holly Virginia Russell, Kenneth Scott Russell and Donna Melanie Russell Sides; and her five grandchildren, Graydon, Sage, Max, Tom and Abby. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Miller Roberts; and her nephew, J. Patrick Kerr; and niece, Kelly Kerr Chapman.

She attended Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah and Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1959, Donna married John G. Russell Jr. and they moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she resided until retiring to Monteagle, Tennessee, in 1999 and then to Paducah in 2007. She was the Executive Director of Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville 1988-1999 and involved in numerous museum and tourism organizations. She dedicated many hours to the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, serving as Superintendent of Platform, Board President and on various committees. The mountain was always her favorite place and gathering spot for family and friends. Whether she was playing tennis or bridge, working puzzles, reading on the porch, or visiting with friends, Monteagle soothed her soul. In Paducah, she loved playing tennis and golf with the ladies of Paducah Country Club and Paxton Park Ladies Golf Association. She was a member of the El Arbol Garden Club, serving as President and Historian. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered with the Keys Program.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Drive, Paducah, Kentucky, on June 5, 2014 with a celebration of Donna's life immediately following. Interment will be in Monteagle, Tennessee, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Broadway United Methodist Church Keys Program, 701 Broadway, Paducah, KY 42001; Monteagle S.S. Assembly, Monteagle, TN 37356, or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at Baptist Health Paducah who cared for their mother during these past few weeks, and we would also like to thank her amazing friends who welcomed her to Paducah and then cared for her and the family.
