Plea entered:

A plea agreement has been reached in the capital murder case against Ryan Champion, an Oak Grove man accused of conspiring in a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the deaths of his mother, father and sister in Oct. 2014, and killing his accomplice. Champion pleaded guilty to three counts of complicity to murder, one count of murder and one count of kidnapping. For more details see Friday's edition of The Sun

Oscar T. Smith

Oscar T. Smith, 81, of LaGrange, Kentucky died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Tri-County Baptist Hospital in LaGrange, Ky.

He was born July 22, 1932 in McLeansboro, Ill. to the late Oscar and Vivian Smith. He was a retired minister, former manager of Preston Chemical Company in Paducah, a former vice-president of PB&S Chemical Company in Henderson and president of S&B Chemical Broker Company in Henderson. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Henderson.

He was a member of the first graduating class of Kentucky Wesleyan College where he received a degree in Biology. He was also a cameraman for the film "The Kentuckian" that was filmed in Owensboro in 1955. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha J. Smith; a son, Paul A. Smith; and a brother, Jimmie D. Smith.

Survivors include his son, Michael T. Smith and wife, Bonnie of LaGrange, Ky.; his daughter, Debra L. Smith of Henderson; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Smith of Owensboro, Joe T. Smith of Urbana, Ill. and Paul David Smith of Owensboro; and five sisters, Ruth Shiver, Carla Donahoo, Mary Cupp and Barbara Stanley, all of Owensboro and Shirley Rhodes Smith of Hong Kong; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Memorial Tabernacle. A funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
