James William 'Hoover' Sams

ARLINGTON - James William "Hoover" Sams, 80, of Arlington went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Sams was a member of First Assembly of God in Arlington and worked for Flegle's Lumber Yard for 33 years. He loved life and enjoyed going to flea markets and junking. He loved to ride the river bottoms with his son, digging slough worms, and visiting with his pastor.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Sue McBride Sams; one daughter, Rosie Sams of Dexter, Ky.; one son, William Henry "Zeke" Sams and wife Sheila Ann Jeter Sams of Arlington; one sister, Mary Lou Aldridge of Springfield, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Michelle Howard of Arlington and Jarad Sams of Paducah; and one great-grandchild, Shelby Lynn Howard of Arlington.

Mr. Sams was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Patterson; and one brother. His parents were James Henry "Pete" and Alline Modine Finnie Sams.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington with the Rev. Gleen Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Arlington Assembly of God, 6060 U.S. Highway 51 S, Arlington, KY 42021.
