Carole Nikaido

Staff report

DEERFIELD, Ill. - Carole K. Gardner Nikaido, 73, of Deerfield, formerly of Cadiz, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Whitehall Rehabilitation Center in Deerfield.

She was a graduate of Deaconess Nursing School in Evansville, Ind. She worked for the University of Kentucky Medical Center  before moving to Maui, Hawaii, where she worked as a mental health nurse, and retired after working another five years as a school nurse. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Cadiz Lions Club, NARFE and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1913.

She is survived by two daughters, Noelle Sim of Westlake, Ohio, and Nicole Nikaido of San Mateo, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Elaine Gardner Whittle of Kamuela, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Minoru "Nick" Nikaido. Her parents were James Kessner Gardner and Ruth Ellen Gardner.

Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating. Joint committal services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, for her and her husband at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz is in charge of arrangements.
