Cecil Burgess

BEULAH - Cecil Burgess, age 93, of Beulah, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 1:10 p.m. at the Mills Health & Rehab Facility.

He was retired from the Kentucky State Highway Department.

Cecil was born in Hickman County on February 16, 1920, to Joe and Nora Tharp Burgess. He married the love of his life, Lorene Wilson Burgess, on October 3, 1936. They were married almost 75 years before Lorene passed away on May 25, 2011.

He is survived by two sons, Seral "Smokey" Burgess and Flavious Burgess, both of Beulah; and one daughter, Paulettia Vivrette of Paducah; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Wilson Burgess; one son, Rickie Lee Burgess; and one grandson, Scott Burgess; and his parents.

Cecil was a lifelong member of the Beulah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Beulah Baptist Church with Pastor Ian Carrico and Larry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, Ky., and friends may also call after 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Beulah Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Burgess, Brian Burgess, Mark Burgess, Brad Vivrette, Tanner Vivrette and Chris Cook. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Dodson.
