Staff Report

HICKMAN - James D. "Sam" Weatherly, 81, of the Sassafras Ridge Community died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at his home.

He was a member of the Sassafras Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a former song leader and Sunday school teacher. He was a retired farmer and former vice chairman of the Fulton County Board of Education.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Herane) Weatherly; one son, David Weatherly of Hickman; three daughters, Virginia Stanford of Lakeland, Tenn., Myrna Parks of Hickman and Sherry Darnell of Tiptonville, Tenn.; one brother, Raybon (Pete) Weatherly of Troy, Tenn.; two sisters, Thelma (Dolly) Wilkerson of Fulton and Barbara Blanton of Hickman; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. His parents were Jack and Beulah Weatherly.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at Strong Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Southerland and Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickman City Cemetery.

Friends may call until 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
