Kenneth Clifton Riggs

Kenneth Clifton Riggs passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in League City, Texas, following a long illness.

Mr. Riggs was born August 28, 1932, in Durham, N.C. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in his teens, and served for nearly 30 years throughout the country. His final assignment brought him to Paducah in 1972, where he served as a Marine Inspector with the Marine Safety Office of the U.S. Coast Guard in Paducah. He retired in Paducah in 1978 as Chief Warrant Officer-4. He was a member of the Propeller Club of the U.S. Port of Paducah and Lone Oak First Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Baker of League City, Texas, and Carolyn Davidson of Texas City, Texas; one stepson, Joey Smith Burchard of Paducah; two sisters, Betty Perry of Roxboro, N.C., and Barbara Weeks of Eureka, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Smith Riggs of Paducah; and his parents, Dorsey and Bernice Riggs of Durham, N.C.

Graveside services will be held at Tiline Cemetery on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 11 a.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Coast Guard Foundation-Shipmate Fund at coastguardfoundation.org.
