CUBA - Mr. James Aubrey "Jimmy" Baker, age 77, of both the Cuba and Wingo communities, died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
Born April 17, 1936, Mr. Baker was a member of the Cuba Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 23 years. He was a retired educator of 33 years, serving as principal of Wingo High School, Cuba Elementary School, and was also the first athletic director of Graves County High School. He was also a farmer and an avid private pilot.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Ann Baker; his parents, Aubrey and Annie Taylor Baker; an infant sister, Mary Sue Baker; and a brother-in-law, Cecil Caldwell.
He is survived by his son, Jeff (Kristen) Baker of Wingo; four grandchildren, Jason Baker of Murray, Jeffrey Lyle (Shelly) Baker of Louisville, Brittany (Justin) Mathis of Benton and Brad Baker of Mayfield; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Caldwell of Wingo; a niece, Sharla (Johnny) Taylor of Wingo; and a nephew, Sonny (Sharon) Caldwell of Paducah.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014, at the Cuba Church of Christ with Bro. Will McSweeney, Bro. Bobby Crittendon and Bro. Brett Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the Cuba Church of Christ Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield.
