Work on I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at mile marker 30 resumed Monday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractor's work will restrict both east and westbound traffic on the interstate to one lane for several months.

Motorists should expect slowing and merging traffic near the construction site.

Work on the Luther Draffen Bridge will target a number of engineering issues found by the contractor during the fabrication of new joints for the deck, delaying the completion of the project beyond its initially targeted date of Nov. 15, 2018.

At present, there is no new target completion date and the contractor is paying a substantial penalty for the project's extension.

A number of overnight closures will be required to facilitate the installation of the new joints on both bridges. The contractor will attempt to provide timely notice of these closures and a readily available detour.
