Man charged with taking batteries

Staff report

A La Center man was charged with theft and attempted burglary Wednesday in the theft of batteries from vehicles at a residence and business, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Blandville Road about 5 a.m. Wednesday. Martin Steve told deputies he'd found La Center resident Joshua White, 22, under the hood of his Cadillac that was parked in front of his business and residence.

According to the sheriff's department, White had been inside the business and residence before tampering with the vehicle and took three batteries from two of Steve's pickup trucks. White left after he was confronted by Steve, according to the sheriff's report.

McCracken authorities contacted the Ballard County Sheriff's Department, which found White at his parents' residence in Ballard County with three batteries matching the description Steve gave deputies.

McCracken County deputies went to the Ballard County residence, where they arrested White. White was charged with second-degree attempted burglary and theft by unlawful taking of parts from a vehicle under $500.
